Don’t Hire a Resume Writer, Use Chat GPT Instead!
Are you considering hiring a resume writer or currently working with one? Don’t waste your time or money! Chat GPT is here to save the day and make it super easy for you to create fantastic resumes and resume summaries.
Resume summaries are crucial when applying for a new role. You should always take the job description, identify the key points, and build strong summaries for each new resume you create. But that sounds like a lot of work, right? That’s where Chat GPT comes in. It can help you create a new resume in just 2-3 minutes.
So let’s dive in and see how to use Chat GPT to build a resume from scratch. I’ll be screen sharing for the rest of this video to show you just how easy it is.
First, go to the OpenAI platform and click the “try” button. If you’ve never logged in before, you’ll need to set up a username and password. If you’ve used it before, you’ll be taken straight to the search screen.
For this demonstration, let’s say we’re going for a Technical Program Manager role focused on cloud tech. We’ll ask Chat GPT to write a resume for a TPM focused on cloud tech and this is what it comes up with. As you can see, it’s created a summary, listed some technical skills, and included fake experience and education. This is a great start!
Next, we’re going to build what I like to call a “shell resume.” This will be our go-to resume and each time we apply for a new position, we’ll only need to change out the summary. So let’s build our shell resume using the information Chat GPT provided.
In the summary, we want to include specific items that are relevant to the TPM role. Technical Program Manager with 7 years of experience in cloud technologies, delivering complex projects on time and within budget, adaptive at managing cross-functional teams, and building strong relationships are all good to include. Mentioning proficiency in agile technologies and a skillset in driving process improvement initiatives will also make your summary stand out.
Next, let’s add in our technical skills. These will be important for any TPM role, so make sure to include relevant items like experience with AWS, project management tools like JIRA, programming languages like Python, and operating systems like Linux.
Experience is important, but it’s not always necessary to list out every day-to-day responsibility and accomplishment. Instead, use this section to remind yourself of relevant points that might not have made it into your summary. For example, leading a successful migration or implementing a new process that improved efficiency.
Finally, don’t forget to include your education and any relevant certifications.
Now that we have our shell resume, let’s see how Chat GPT can help us tailor it to a specific job description. Let’s say we find a Google job for a Technical Program Manager and we want to apply. We’ll take the job description and use Chat GPT to help us build a strong summary.
First, we’ll identify the key points from the job description. It looks like Google is looking for someone with experience leading complex, cross-functional projects and a track record of delivering results. They also want someone who is analytical, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively.
Using this information, we can update our shell resume summary to highlight our relevant experience leading complex projects and delivering results. We can also mention our analytical skills and ability to communicate effectively.
And just like that, we have a tailored resume ready
